On August 22nd and 23rd the Z_GIS Land@Slide team conducted a field trip to the Großarl valley and the Kleinarl valley, Hohe Tauern, Salzburg. Both valleys were strongly affected by landslides and debris flows that were triggered by heavy rainfalls at the beginning of August 2017. Several roads and trails were destroyed and blocked, particularly in the Großarl valley. In the Kleinarl valley, a huge landslide dammed a river which led to the emergence of two new lakes. A range of field photos were collected and recent pre- and post-event Sentinel-2 satellite images were used to assess the situation in the field.
